He took a hat-trick against West Indies during the 1988 WACA Test which span across three separate overs, two innings & two separate days. He dismissed Curtly Ambrose bowling the last ball of his 36th over & from the first ball of 37th over he dismissed Patrick Patterson ending West Indies first innings. More than a day later bowling his first delivery of West Indies second innings he dismissed Gordon Greenidge completing the hat-trick. During the same game he recorded his career best figures with 13 for 201 which however wasn’t enough to avoid a defeat. He played 53 Test for Australia claiming 212 wickets at 28.38 in addition to his 38 ODI wickets. He’s quite handy with the bat down the order & has 2 half centuries under his name in Test cricket. Apart from that he’s one of the unique characters on the field & a crowd favorite too. Here’s wishing a very happy birthday to former Australian bowler Merv Hughes. Fruitfly is turning 61 today.
