We are facing an unexpected pandemic situation. Everywhere we can see recognitions are given to healthcare professionals but are we missing someone?

Yes, that someone is nothing but a “PHARMACIST” who is working for us for providing quality medicine by getting involved in research and development, taking clinical trials on animals and humans, checking different formulations and manufacturing them, making them available throughout the country, counselling the patients on how to take them, how to store them and many more like developing Covid vaccine in an ultra-short time.

A pharmacist is one of the most trusted professionals as he is involved in various activities which are not only limited to research and development of medicine but also involved in patient counselling type of groundwork.

International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) from 2009 onward officially designated the World Pharmacists Day on the 25th of September of every year. This day is celebrated to commemorat efforts of Pharmacists and also create awar about the Pharmacy profession throughout the world. FIP is playing a lead role by contributing to awareness as well as supporting the pharmacy profession in a true sense.

At present more than 7 lakh Pharmacists are working in Pharmacy and Hospital Pharmacy. We I can use this workforce in fact “The Powerhouse of Medicinal Knowledge base” in the development of our nation. At present, almost every 3rd dosage form in the world is manufactured in India. We supply 40% of generic demand in the US and 25% of all medicine in the UK. We may cross US$ 42 billion by the end of 2021 for the domestic pharmaceutical market while may reach beyond US$ 120-130 billion by end of this decade. Medicine spending in India is growing day by day and is expected to be doubled in the next five years. We are also experiencing the changes like Chain Pharmacy stores as well as Telemedicine and online pharmacies.

The government has also taken initiatives to support pharmaceutical sectors such as active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug intermediates and key starting materials. Gol has also taken steps to minimise dependency on the country’s essential bulk drugs requirement. Atmanirbhar Bharat & Mission COVID Suraksha are the initiatives to strengthen the pharmaceutical sector.
         Peeking into the Pharmaceutical education sector, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has taken initiatives like the Introduction of Pharm D.( Doctor of pharmacy) course which will boost patient-oriented education system, Pharmacy Practice Regulation is another initiative which will help pharmacists to provide a distinct opportunity and recently implemented Education Regulation may also make revolutions in the field of pharmacy education

International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) has to share interesting facts about profession as: the pharmacy

For several years, pharmacists have been named

among the top five most trusted professionals.

Pharma Educators are also consistently in the top

five. A recent survey named Pharma scientists as the most trusted people in the world.

India is moving toward a leading position in the pharmaceutical sector and will top the position with help of the professionals called “PHARMACIST”.
